AI Competition: [Waves of Change]
In partnership with: Gabriel Yanagihara
Challenge:
Every beach and coastline in Hawaiʻi has a story. Some are ancient legends, and some are waiting to be told. Your challenge is to create an original, AI-illustrated story, fable, or comic that is deeply connected to a specific ocean area or beach near your home or school. Using the conference theme, "Navigating Change," as inspiration, you will bring a hyperlocal story to life. This is an opportunity to blend moʻolelo (storytelling) with modern technology, exploring how AI can help us see our own communities in a new light.
What We’re Looking For:
An original illustrated ebook, comic, webtoon, or fable.
The story must be set at a specific, real-world beach or ocean location in Hawaiʻi that is important to you.
A creative connection to the conference theme: "Navigating Change".
A final digital submission (e.g., PDF, Google Slides, Canva) that is approximately 8-20 pages/panels in length.
We encourage you to take photos of your chosen location and use AI to transform them into illustrations for your story.
Individually designed OR in a team of 2-4.
Rules for AI Use:
All AI-generated content (story text, character designs, illustrations, etc.) should be cited at the end of the book. Listing the tools and what you used them for will suffice.
It is advised to use Google Gemini/Whisk. This is a HIDOE approved student AI use.
Students are encouraged to explore advanced prompting techniques to create consistent characters and unique visual styles. A full prompting guide is available HERE.
